Chinese antiquities of the Yuan Dynasty (1279 - 1368AD)

A green glazed Buddhist jar and cover decorated with emblems and floral motiffs. The interior of the cover is ringed with very clear calligraphy which, to date, is unknown. It is based on Sanskit but is closer to Devanagari, an ancient languague used to write sacred texts.
Vessels such as this were discovered in Kunming City, Yunnan Province and contained bronze flowers, shells and silver offerings.

A rare pair of Yuan Dynasty female attendants.
28 cm high.
